Installation & Upgrade

If your application is implemented using IIS (Web Server) sites, you must install Smart Licensing Client on the application server, which has the Web Server software installed on it. The server connects to the Hexagon cloud to get licenses.

You do not need to install Smart Licensing Client on the client computers, unless they are used to run other Hexagon applications that specifically require Smart Licensing Client to be installed alongside the application.

Installing Smart Licensing Client on the server

If your licensed application is implemented using IIS (Web Server) sites, you must restart the computer (web server) after installing Smart Licensing Client.

Running Smart Licensing Client on the server

Typically, Smart Licensing Client should be run as administrator on the server so that configurations can be set up for all users.

Client Settings tab - Not typically used for this type of application.

Check In and Check Out tabs - Smart Licensing Client does not prevent checkout and check-in operations from working, but these operations are generally not applicable because licenses on servers are not commonly checked out for offline use.

Configuration tab - Run Smart Licensing Client as administrator to make configuration changes for users other than the logged in user.

Status tab - Provides connectivity status between the server and licensing services. This tab does not provide information about the status of the clients.

Notifications tab - Run Smart Licensing Client as administrator to see notifications for the device.
