You can define build rules for an item group or for a specific component within an item group. The steps in the following procedure walk you through the process of defining build rules for the Pipe item group.

When you define build rules for an item group, those rules apply to all new materials within that item group, except for any components that have their own build rules. In those cases, component-specific build rules override the item group build rules.

  1. Click Tools > Material Wizard Tools Editor.

  2. On the General tab, verify the following:

    • Fixed length fields option is checked

    • Padding character = -

    • Free format field option is checked

    • Length = 2

    • Part descriptor separator = comma followed by a space (, )

    • Maximum description length = 50
