When you place a new weld on a section of pipe, the software displays a Selection ribbon along the top of the Graphics window. You must use the ribbon to specify a distance from the reference point that you define on the pipeline. The software automatically calculates the minimum and maximum distances allowed. If you enter an illegal distance, the software displays an error message.

Selection ribbon - Welds

The Min and Max boxes display the minimum and maximum valid distances from the reference point. If these distances are limited by the position of a support, teso or olet (in other words, something that breaks the pipe up graphically but not physically), then the associated Lock Lock is enabled. Clicking Lock Lock unlocks that distance and displays the Min or Max values based on the physical rather than graphical limits.

  1. On the Weld toolbar, select the type of weld to place in the Weld Type list.

  2. On the Weld toolbar, select the appropriate Weld command. For example, click Place Workshop Weld Place Workshop Weld. Alternatively, click Welding > <Weld Type> to specify the required weld.

  3. Select a point on the pipeline to specify the location of the weld.

  4. Select a second point on the pipeline to define a reference point.

  5. On the Selection ribbon, type a value in the Distance box, and then click OK Accept .

The software places the weld in the pipeline.

  6. Click Update Current View Update Current View to refresh the display of the spools in the Pipeline Explorer and in the Graphics window.

  • Pressing CTRL+SHIFT during weld placement snaps the weld to the end of the pipe. Also, if there is an open end at a fitting, such as a reducer, you can use CTRL+SHIFT to place a weld there.

  • After placement, the software remains in Place Weld mode so you can place additional welds if necessary. To exit Place Weld mode, do one of the following:

    • Click OK Accepton the Selection ribbon.

    • Press ESC.

    • Right-click in the Graphics window, and then select Cancel.
