The Text window also indicates if a selected object is already part of a display set. You can create a new display set containing an object that is part of another display set. However, when you want to move the object, you are asked to pick which display set you want to move.

Objects can be in more than one display set at a time. However, if your new display set does not seem to display properly, overlapping display sets may be the problem. The last action performed on the object by corresponding display set manipulations wins. For example, if Object 1 is in both DisplaySet1 and DisplaySet2, and you turn off DisplaySet1, then Object 1 is off, even though DisplaySet2 is still on. Once DisplaySet2 is toggled off and then on, Object1 displays again.

Display sets can be created based on linkages using the Linkage search criteria. New display sets created from selected objects default to the Linkage search criteria for all selection filters except Display Sets (Edit > Select Filter > Display Sets). When the filter is Display Sets and the selected objects in the Main view are display sets, then the Display Sets search criteria is used.

For .vue files produced by Smart 3D for native data, the DMRS linkages are based on the unique object identifiers, and can be used with each new version of .vue files containing the same graphic objects.

For .vue files produced by Smart 3D for non-native data, such as referenced MicroStation or PDMS data, the DMRS linkages may change on every reference. Therefore, we recommend that you use .vue files produced by Smart Interop Publisher for this data, and use other search criteria such as Data instead of Linkage, if possible.

When display sets are read from the database (for instance, when opening a model file or selecting the Tools > Refresh Data command), the display set ID number determines the order of precedence when conflicting display characteristics are assigned to the same elements. The lower the display set number, the higher the precedence. This means that an element that is a member of two different display sets will appear with the characteristics of the lower numbered display set, assuming both sets have different display characteristics turned on.

To update or regenerate files published using previous versions of Smart Interop Publisher, use the Translate command to translate the source files into Smart Models, and then re-open the updated .vue, .svf, or .zvf file in Smart Review. However, be aware that you must also recreate any display sets that were defined based on label properties.
