Automatically attaches Smart 3D drawing files (.sha and .pid) to corresponding objects in a 3D model through a Smart Review external attachments database. The utility correlates the 2D drawing file object IDs to the 3D model file (.vue, zvf., and .svf) object IDs. This includes P&ID pipe runs that are correlated to 3D model piping objects.

The Smart Review Correlator utility can only run while Smart Review is also running. The correlator utility offers a faster way than the Auto-Attach command to attach multiple drawing files, and administrators can set up a batch process to run the utility on a scheduled basis.

The utility is included with your Smart Review installation, and you can run it interactively or in batch mode using command line arguments.

Notes and Considerations

  • The Smart Review attachments database is limited to a maximum of 2 GB. This 2 GB limit includes room for data and database transactions. Database performance and stability can degrade at larger sizes.

  • The default folder stored in the external attachments database uses a relative path between the specified project folder and the drawings folder, if possible. When the specified project folder and drawings folder do not reside on the same letter drive, the utility uses absolute paths.

  • The utility defaults to the [project name]-attachments.mdb in the project folder.

  • The utility does not save any options, and does not show any progress during operation.

  • If you run Smart Review with administrator permissions, the utility must also run with administrator permissions.

  • Smart 3D must be the source for the .vue, .svf, or .zvf file you are using. For new models generated by Smart Review or Smart Interop Publisher, Smart 3D must be the original source file. Source files translated by Smart Interop Publisher from other applications or third-party products are not supported for auto-attach and correlation with 2D drawings. For more information on 3D models from Smart Interop Publisher, refer to the Smart Interop Publisher Online Help.

  • For .sha drawing files, the utility uses linkages as the default attachment criteria. You can also base the attachment criteria on properties such as the label name. All 3D graphics sharing the same criteria can be correlated to the same drawing file, even if only one of those graphics is present in that drawing file.

  • For SmartPlant P&ID drawing files:

    • The utility uses the Smart 3D Name and the P&ID ItemTag or item text label as the correlation criteria.

    • Multiple objects with the same name can cause single or multiple 2D objects to correlate to multiple or single 3D objects.

    • Nozzle objects are not correlated.

    • Smart Plant P&ID can specify ItemTag values on 2D symbols and text labels.
