You can specify a distance from your display set or object in which to detect a collision. This can help you find all possible collisions. For example, you can find collisions that affect the movement or maintenance of objects. The Clearance value is the linear distance from the edges of the selected display set or object. For example, a value of 2 meters causes Smart Review to detect any objects that are within 2 meters of the selected object or display set.

  1. Select an object or display set in the Main view.

  2. Click Tools > Collision Detection > Detect Collisions.

The Detect Collision dialog box displays.

  3. Click Show Details .

  4. Type in a Clearance value.

The Clearance option uses the Readout measurement units and Precision settings from Tools > Format Readouts. Use the Format Readouts command to change the units of measure for the clearance value.

  5. Select the Default Collision Set, and then click Detect.

Smart Review highlights the primary object or display set and then generates a collision detection run. Smart Review adds in the clearance value so that an approximated linear distance is reflected in the wireframe box surrounding the primary object or display set.

For a display set that is made up of multiple objects, a wireframe box is drawn around each object in the display set. The example below shows a highlighted display set made up several piping components. The Clearance value is set to .120 m.

The number of collisions displays in the Total field of the Detect Collisions dialog box.

  6. Repeat steps 1-5 to change the clearance setting and re-run collision detection. The Clearance value is not saved between Smart Review sessions.
