The following lists show the display sets that can be generated when you run Find Differences:

Generated Find Differences Display Sets

By automatically organizing the resulting differences into display sets, you have the same filtering and view manipulation options that you have with typical display sets such as Rename, Show/Hide, Shade/Wire, Dim/Undim, and Material On/Off. In turn, you can import and export these display sets, create additional custom differences display sets, and rename them. These Find Differences display sets persist between sessions. If the source files change between sessions, the display set comparison results can also change.

Added

Creates a display set containing graphic objects present only in the newer files. The default material color is green in the SPRDefault.pal materials file.

Removed

Creates a display set showing graphic objects that have been removed from the older files and are not present in the newer files. The default material color is red in the SPRDefault.pal materials file.

Same

Creates a display set showing objects that have the same linkages in the compared files. If Ranges and Geometry are selected, these also show objects with the same ranges and geometry. The default material color is transparent gray in the SPRDefault.pal materials file.

Optional

Ranges New

Creates a display set containing graphic objects in the newer file that have different ranges from those in the older file. Smart Review generates this display set when the Ranges option is selected. The default material color is blue in the SPRDefault.pal materials file.

Ranges Old

Creates a display set containing graphic objects in the older file that have different ranges in the newer file. Smart Review generates this display set only when the Ranges option is selected. The default material color is transparent cyan in the SPRDefault.pal materials file.

Geometry New

Creates a display set containing graphic objects in the newer file that have different geometry definitions than the older file. Smart Review generates this display set only when the Geometry option is selected. The default material color is orange in the SPRDefault.pal materials file.

Geometry Old

Creates a display set containing graphic objects in the older file that have different geometry definitions from the newer file. Smart Review generates this display set only when the Geometry option is selected. The default material is transparent yellow in the SPRDefault.pal materials file.

Properties New

Creates a display set containing graphic objects in the newer file that have different properties or property values than the older file. Smart Review generates this display set only when the Properties option is selected. The default material color is transparent violet in the SPRDefault.pal materials file.

Properties Old

Creates a display set containing graphic objects in the older file that have different properties or property values than the newer file. Smart Review generates this display set only when the Properties option is selected. The default material color is transparent magenta in the SPRDefault.pal materials file.

The software compares only graphic objects having the same linkages.

Use Find Object

To see each changed object in the Find Differences display sets:

  1. From the Project Manager, right-click the display set and select Find Object.

The Find Object dialog box displays showing the automatically generated Differences display set. In the example figure, the Added display set is selected.

    -OR-

Press CTRL + F, and then click <Custom> to open the Edit Definition dialog box in which you create your own search criteria. The FIND > Duplicate keyword contains display set queries that support Find Differences operations.

  2. To further refine the search operation, you can expand the Find Object dialog box to select any of the Fit, Show, and Render options, For more information on using Find Object, see Advanced Search with Find Object.

  3. Click Next.

Smart Review goes through the newer files first and then the older files, locates, and then zooms in to show the object.

The sort or Next/Previous order of Find Object for the Find Differences display sets first shows graphic objects with duplicate linkages (lowest to highest), and then shows objects contained in each file (by filename). In showing graphic objects with duplicate linkages, you can see the same object contained in both the older and newer file and review how it has changed. For example, if the length of a pipe has changed, you can see the pipe and the range difference if you have the Ranges option selected.

  4. You can right-click the object and select Properties to see more information.
