The Animation Sequencer provides a straightforward, intuitive interface to quickly complete scheduling tasks. The Animation Sequencer is synchronized with the Animation Player so that you can see the Display Set and Key Frame animations moving as you adjust their scheduling. The Animation Sequencer window can be moved, resized, minimized, maximized, and closed like any standard Windows application. The window location and state are persisted between sessions.

The key interface elements are described below.

  1. Sequencer Toolbar

Contains the command buttons listed below. The toolbar buttons can be organized into commands to control the display, navigation, and animation playback.

    Display:

    • Expand/Collapse - Expands or collapses the display set folders in the display set View pane.

    • Show/Hide List View - Toggles to sort between a flat, non-hierarchical list view, or a hierarchical display set tree view. The List View allows sorting on the display set name, start date, end date, and duration as well as repositioning display set rows. The organization of the tree view is based on the display set order shown in the Smart Review Project Manager.

    • Display Paths - Shows only the animation paths. Only paths can be modified in this mode.

    • Display Points - Shows only the points in the animation paths. Only points can be modified in this mode.

    • Display Paths and Points - Shows both the points and animation paths. Only paths can be modified in this mode.

For Key Frame animations, points represent the saved view frame numbers that make up the view group.

      Navigation:

    • Zoom in - Displays more detailed time information. After you click Zoom in, the timeline expands to show more time details such as hours, minutes, and seconds. Zoom in to check time accuracy of animation paths and points.

    • Zoom out - Moves the view out to show less detail in the timeline. After you click Zoom out, the timeline shrinks to show more date details such as years, months, and days. You can zoom out to see all your paths and their summaries.

    • Fit - Adjusts the display of the Time Area pane to the width of the current time block range.

    • Center Current Date and Time - Centers the current time vertical bar within the Time Area pane.

      Playback:

    • Set Start - Sets the start date of the current animation time block to where the progress bar is located.

    • Set Extents – Sets the time block to the first and last times of all displayed animations.

    • Set End – Sets the end date of the current animation time block to where the progress bar is located.

    • Go to Previous Point - Moves to a previous point in the selected animation path.

    • Go to Next Point - Moves to the next point in the selected animation path.

    • Go to Start - Goes to the start date of the current animation. This command works the same as the Go to Start command in the Animation Player and also supports the Ctrl+R shortcut key combination.

    • Step Backward - Moves the animation playback backward one step in time.

The Step in days setting in the Common page of the Animation Settings dialog box controls the Step Forward and Step Backward commands. For more information, see Common Playback/Capture Settings.

    • Play - Starts the playback in the Main view and in the Sequencer. The animation starts on the current date identified by the location of the progress bar.

    • Step Forward - Moves the animation forward to the next step in time.

    • Go to End – Goes to the last playback frame of the animations. This command works the same as the Go to End command in the Animation Player and also supports the Ctrl+B shortcut key combination.

    • Stop - Stops the playback. The animations are moved back to their original start position or state and start time.

    • Increase Playback - Increases the playback speed of the animation by doubling the Step in Days value defined in the Common page of the Animation Playback/Capture Settings dialog box.

    • Decrease Playback - Decreases the playback speed of the animation by halving the Step in Days value defined in the Common page of the Animation Playback/Capture Settings dialog box.

The Increase and Decrease Playback commands correspond to the Step in Days value on the Common page of the Animation Settings dialog box.

    • Refresh - Updates and synchronizes animation data in the sequencer with the data in the current project. If you make changes to any of your animations and do not see these changes reflected immediately in the Sequencer, click Refresh.

    • Current Date and Time - Changes the current date and time. Click on the time or date element you want to change.

      You can also:

    • Click the Date arrow to select a date from the calendar.

    • Use the up and down arrow keys on the keyboard to increment or decrement each selected unit of time.

    • The vertical current time progress bar automatically moves to the new date. If the new date is not within the currently-displayed timeline, click in the Time Area pane to move the new current time, or click Center Current Date and Time .

  2. Timeline

Shows the time with the top line showing the year, the second line showing the day and month, and the last line shows the hours, minutes, and seconds. Use CTRL+ mouse wheel to zoom in and out the Sequencer to change the view and the amount of detail shown in the view. As you zoom in, for example, you can see down to the day > hour > minute > second.

  3. Status Bar

Provides information related to the current operation and displays the start and end times of the time block range and the current time of the progress bar.

  4. View Pane

Shows animations for all animation types selected in the Animation Playback/Capture Settings dialog box. You can toggle between a flat, non-hierarchical list view, or a hierarchical tree view.

  5. Time Area Pane

Contains the animation paths, points, and summaries:

    1. Current Time Bar - Shows the current time. Click on the point in the Time Area pane to change the current time. Changing the current time also moves the animations to that date and time only if the Display sets animation type is selected in the Common page of the Animation Playback/Capture Settings dialog box.

    2. Time Block - Represents the time duration of animations. The time block, which displays with a gray background, can either be the entire duration of animations in your project, or a defined subset of time or time range. The types of animations to be included in the time block are set using the Animation Playback/Capture Settings dialog box. The extents of the time block are synchronized with the slider bar on the Animation Player.

    3. Summary bars - Shows the total start and end time of all animations in the Smart Review project. The top-most summary bar shows the start and end time of all the display set animations available for playback. Subsequent summaries show the start and end times of display set animations in a sub-folder in the tree view. The path summaries are the horizontal bars in the time area pane that roll up display sets to one summary-level line. There are two summary types in the Sequencer: the folder summaries and the overall display set project summary.

The summary bars allow you to see the total duration, and start and finish dates of display sets in a folder.

  6. Animation Paths

    Displays the following animation types:

    1. A Display Set animation path shows you the traversed area of a display set. Display Set animation paths are graphic objects that can be set to show, shade, dim, as well as material assignment and movement. A Display Set animation path consists of a series of placed animation points, which are represented by tipped cones. When you select a Display Set animation path in the Main view and open the Properties dialog box, information including the display set name associated to the path, the number of animation points, and the position corresponding to where you clicked in the path is listed.

    2. A Key Frame animation path represents saved views in a Save and Recall Views view group. The points in a Key Frame animation path are each saved view making up the view group being played as the animation. You can only have one Key Frame animation displaying in the Sequencer at a time.

    3. A ScheduleReview animation path shows the start and finish dates of the project. ScheduleReview animations are read only and cannot be changed or moved in the Sequencer.

  7. Animation Point

Represents location and time changes in an animation path. Points are visible when the Display Points or Display Points and Paths mode is selected. Smart Review assigns a number to each point in the animation path.

    1. For Key Frame animations, the animation point corresponds to each frame in the view group. To see the frames, open the Save and Recall Views dialog box and select the view group defined for the animation.

The point numbers are always contiguous and increment as time moves forward.

    2. For Display Set animations, the point numbering correlates to the order in which the point was placed as the path was being created.

For ScheduleReview animations, only the Start and Finish dates for project tasks are shown. Therefore there are only two animation points for ScheduleReview; a start point and a finish point represented by a black vertical bar.

Tooltips

Provides the name, duration, start, and end date information for an animation path. A tooltip displays when you hover the cursor over the animation path in the Time Area pane. When Display Points or Display Path and Points is selected, hovering over the point gives you the date, time, point order animation information. For Key Frame animations, the frame numbering displays.
