Motion > Mouse Drag Modes > View Cube > Activate

Displays a three-dimensional view manipulation cube that surrounds a minimized version of the current model. The View Cube allows you to change the eye point or "camera angle" through which you view the model. The following example shows the View Cube surrounding the sample MonroviaPlant model:

The View Cube display consists of face handles that represent orthogonal views (front, back, top, bottom, right, and left), with corner and edge handles that allow you to see isometric views such as Front-Right-Top (corner handle) and Back-Bottom (edge handle).

To change the eye point positioning with the View Cube:

  • Click the edge, corner, and face handles to quickly change the eye point position. The handles serve as hot spots to transition the view.

    OR

  • Select an area in or around the View Cube, and then drag your mouse to move the View Cube with the model inside to the new position.

You can toggle View Cube mode on and off by:

  • Clicking View Cube on the Common or Navigation toolbar.

  • Selecting Motion > Mouse Drag Modes > View Cube > Activate.

  • Selecting Activate from the View Cube Settings dialog box.

  • Pressing V (shortcut key).

When you turn off the View Cube, Smart Review removes the View Cube display and restores the view and model to the original zoom factor.

View Cube and Common Views

The View Cube also works in tandem with the Common Views control. When you use the View Cube to change the eye point position, the Common Views control automatically updates to show the new position, and vice versa. This offers several ways for you to change the eye point position.

Use the View Cube

  1. To change the View Cube handle and face text display, select Motion > Mouse Drag Modes > View Cube > Settings. For more information, see Customize the View Cube Display

  2. To display the View Cube, select Motion > Mouse Drag Modes > View Cube > Activate.

The View Cube surrounds the model.

  3. To change to a specific view orientation, click any of the corner, face, or edge handles on the View Cube.

As you move your mouse over a handle on the View Cube, the transparency is turned off and the handle changes to a solid color. After you click on a handle, the View Cube moves to the selected position.

If the Allow fly-to behaviors option is not selected as a motion setting (Motion menu > Settings > Display tab), you can click a corner or edge to immediately jump to the new location instead of going through fly mode.

    -OR-

You can also hold the left mouse button and drag the mouse to move the view.
