You can work with specifications even when they do not have an assigned template.

For specifications without a template, the Template box is empty on the Cover page.

On the Components page, specs without a template show a grid with all the spec items.

The Components grid here is very similar to the grid in the Component Manager. You can create new spec items, modify existing spec items, and delete spec items in this grid. You can also sort, filter, and set a current view.

When you save the grid, the software checks the grid (for example, the From1/To1 and From2/To2 size ranges) and displays the errors if there are any.

  • The Components grid provides the short description and description for each commodity code in the Short Description and Description columns, respectively. This information helps you to know what components are part of the specification. The Short Description and Description columns are read-only.

  • Double-click a commodity code to navigate to the commodity code screen. Similarly, you can navigate to a short code, commodity group, commodity part, and geometric screen.

  • To see the idents of a spec item, select the spec item, and click Show Idents of the Spec Show Idents of the Spec at the top of the grid. The spec item must have a commodity code set, and the spec grid must be in read-only mode in order for the Show Idents of the Spec button to be available.

In the Components grid, if you select a short code that has no Group or Part assigned in Short Code Management screen (Parts to Short Codes grid), then all the available groups and parts appear in the LOV. If you select a short code that has Group or Part already assigned in Short Code Management screen, then only the selected group or part appear for selection in their LOV.
