Because the import job once started runs in the background, the software allows you to choose an option for logging messages while the import job is in progress. The log messages are three types: Information, Warning, and Error. While creating an import job, you can specify which kind of log messages you are interested in and should be logged.

Choosing Log Message Type

When creating an import job (CMS3010 Manage Import Jobs), you can specify the kind of log messages that the software records for the job. The CMS XML Import Jobs grid has a column called “Log Severity”. Choose a value from the Selection list LOV. The following are the valid values:

  • Error – Only error messages are recorded.

  • Warning – If any warning messages are raised, they are recorded. Additional error messages are also recorded.

  • Info – All informative messages generated during the import process are recorded along with any warning or error messages generated during the process.

Viewing Log Messages

Once the execution of an import job is done, you can view the log messages generated for the job.

There are two options available to navigate to the window where log messages can be viewed. You can either select the View Log option from the shortcut menu of the CMS XML Import Jobs grid, or you can navigate to the CMS Import Job: <Job Code> window and click the View Log button on this window, as shown in the picture below.

Either of the options as described above takes you to the CMS Imp Job Log View window, shown below. The header part of the window displays the import job code and run number for the log messages, which appear in a grid view.

For each log message, the grid view displays the following fields:

  • Log Severity: Indicates whether the log remark is simple information, a warning, or an error.

  • SQL Code: Oracle code if the warning or the error is generated by any Oracle process.

  • Log Message: The message provided by the Oracle process.

  • Log Remarks: Application generated message.

  • Last Modified: Date and time the message was logged.

By default, the messages are sorted on the basis of the Last Modified field and are displayed in the “Latest Message First” fashion. The grid additionally provides the following features to customize the view:

  • Sort: You can define the criteria for sorting the messages.

  • Filter: You can define the criteria or conditions to filter the messages for your interest.

  • Current View: You can add or remove columns or reposition them in the grid view.

All of the above features to customize the view can be accessed through the toolbar buttons provided on the toolbar of the grid displaying the log messages.
