This functionality allows you to search for data in the grid and if required, replace it with another value. The functionality is enabled only when the grid is in edit mode. The functionality can be invoked by pressing CTRL+H in a column of the grid. When you press CTRL+H (and the grid is in edit mode), the Find Replace dialog box appears as shown in the figure below.

The find and replace operation does not happen for the entire grid. It either happens for the grid column selected before pressing CTRL+H or for the selected cells of the grid. In the case of the selected cells of the grid, the cells can be selected across the columns.

Fields

  • Name of Selected Column: The dialog box displays the name of the selected column on which the Find and Replace operation is performed.

  • Find: Provide the string you want to search.

  • Replace: Provide the new value used to replace the old value given in the Find field.

  • Selection list: The selection list is provided with both Find and Replace fields. Clicking this button displays the selection list for the selected column. The selection list can also be displayed using the F9 key when the cursor is either in the Find or in the Replace field.

  • Match Case: If this option is selected, the upper or lower cases of the letters in the find string are taken into consideration when comparing the cell values with the value in the Find field. Example: "ABC" does not match "Abc".

  • Match entire cell contents: This option acts as an equals operator. If this option is selected, the entire value of the cell must be equal or must be an exact match to the value given in the Find field. When this option is not selected, the search is performed assuming the string provided in the Find field is a sub-string for the values in the grid cell.

  • Find: Finds the value in the selected column or in the collection of the selected cells of the grid and highlights the first occurrence.

  • Replace: Replaces the matched value with the value supplied in the Replace field.

  • Replace All: This button acts as a batch process of the Replace button. The software finds all the matches automatically and replaces their values. Once Replace All is clicked, a progress bar appears to indicate the loading of the grid to replace all the values. At the end of the process, the software informs you how many occurrences were found and replaced.

During the Find and Replace operation, if you need to switch to another column, you don’t have to close the Find Replace dialog box and then display it again. Instead, just click on the column and click again on the Find Replace dialog box. The Find Replace dialog box automatically detects the change in the column selection.
