The Components page allows you to specify detailed information for the groups and parts in the specification. You can generate commodity codes and idents on this page.

Generate commodity codes

  1. Click SRD > XS20 Spec > XS2020 Spec Editor.

  2. Open a template specification, and go to the Components page.

  3. Click the plus sign for the first section (say, PIPE) to expand the section.

SHARED Tip If you want to see the short code, group and part for the component group, click on the left side of the grid.

  4. Choose one or more filter lines by clicking Selection list LOV, and fill out the filter line grid.

    • You can customize the filter line grid for each component group using the CurrentView button.

    • For more information, see Filter lines.

  5. Click Save SaveGrid at the far left to save the filter lines.

  6. Click the plus sign beneath the filter line grid to expand the result line section.

SHARED Tip You can customize the result line grid for each component group using the CurrentView button.

  7. Click Selection list LOV to copy spec items from an existing specification, if needed.

The software displays a list of specifications that have spec items in the selected component group (such as PIPE) and have spec items of the same spec type as the current spec.

  8. Click Generate in the filter line area to generate commodity codes.

During the generation process, the software searches for commodity codes based on the search criteria in the filter lines. The software also considers the filtering defaults on the Cover page, if the option code of the defaults matches the option code on the filter line.

If you copied spec items, the software adds the generated, unique specs to the copied specs.

SHARED Tip If the software cannot derive all the mandatory table details for a commodity code, it displays the Coding on the fly dialog box. For more information, see Coding on the Fly.

  9. Check the Commodity Code column.

The possibilities for each short code/group/part are: a) The software found one commodity code, b) The software found multiple codes, or c) The software did not find any commodity codes.

    • For one commodity code found, the Commodity Code cell displays a code, such as . No user action is required.

    • For multiple codes found, the Commodity Code cell displays text such as "Find 2 Codes," and the background of the cell is blue. In this case, click the browse Browse button to choose one or more codes. These codes are from the S.30.01 Commodity Codes screen in the Forms application.

    • For no codes found, the Commodity Code cell is empty and in a magenta color:

You can open a Component Manager window and override information, such as the material, save the data, and come back to the Spec Editor to generate commodity codes again.

  10. Click Save SaveGrid in the result line area to save the specification items.

  11. In the other sections, such as FLANGES or FITTINGS, specify filter line information, and then generate the commodity codes.
