The sale of preparation work is a demanding task because it presumes the sale of an engineering product including many work phases. In preprocessing functions, the amount of quotations is normally high, and it must be possible to offer both small and big jobs. To achieve profitability, the cost structure of the sales product has to be known, so that in a competition situation it can be exactly estimated which sales are worth of accepting. On the other hand, the salesperson must also be able to estimate a realistic delivery time because, in the modern production of type JOT, the accuracy of the delivery time is a supplier property which can be measured in money.

The basic idea of the Smart Production Sales is to offer the seller of the preprocessing work a method which enables him to make as exact a definition as possible of the cost price and the sales price as well as the delivery time. In the pricing of work phases, it is essential to have accurate information about the geometrical measurements of the parts because only this information enables a reliable calculation of the material usage and the needed working time. The pricing work is often very fast, so that the usage of the software must be flexible and the making of quotation documents must be accomplished with a minimum input.

The positions to be priced can include plate parts, profile parts, or completed parts and raw materials sold from the stock. For the pricing of assemblies, a hierarchic product structure can be modeled, in which the price of the lower levels is transmitted to the upper levels. Repetitive assemblies can be modeled to recipes which are easy to use in the pricing process.

Smart Production Sales uses the common SQL databases of the Smart Production system. It is built to support the sale of preprocessing products including many work phases. The software can be installed both to individual workstations and on other PC equipment that work in the same network and have Microsoft Windows operating system.

To achieve a sufficiently accurate pricing in the offer making, the part geometry is usually a necessary qualifier. However, it is not always possible to draw exact geometries of parts during the calculation. A faster method which enables a sufficiently accurate illustration of the geometry must be chosen instead. On the other hand, when quoting big amounts of parts, it is advisable to create a very accurate quotation, and even to draw real geometries. The software with which offers are made should therefore include several methods to calculate geometry measurements.

In the Smart Production Sales, you can use the normal settings of the Smart Production Cutting to create an accurate geometry of a plate part:

  1. Draw an accurate geometry with Smart Production Cutting.

  2. Use geometries that have been drawn earlier with Smart Production Cutting.

  3. Bring an accurate geometry to the system from an external CAD system (that is, DXF and DWG formats).

  4. To draw simple geometries, there are geometry macros available for Smart Production Cutting that enable easy drawing of geometries based on the known parameters.

  5. Use Smart Production Sales property that draws simple geometries such as flanges and rectangles automatically. In this case, the resulting real geometries are directly usable in Smart Production Cutting by the time the quotation arrives.

The material usage and cutting time including the auxiliary time can be calculated according to a sales nesting of individual parts or plates. Sales nesting including their cutter paths can be conducted either manually or automatically.

In the pricing of profile parts, the main forms and the profile length of the profile to be cut are given. The material usage and cutting time including the auxiliary time of a profile part can be calculated according to a sales nesting of individual parts or profiles. The sales nesting is carried out with a profile nester which optimizes the material usage and cutting time.
