Ridge Ridge ICON enables you to insert ridges between the parts and the plate. A ridge is a short portion of a profile cutting that let uncut during the cutting process. This minimizes the thermal effects of cutting, and keeps the part attached to the plate until the cutting process is finished. Ridges are used for cutting long, narrow parts that might warp due to thermal effects.

You can define ridges for inner profiles to leave the material attached to the main part. This makes it possible to prevent problems around the inner profile, such as bending and rounding the part.

Click Ridge Ridge ICON to display the Insert Ridges options (see below) in the State Manager.

Preview image

Displays a preview of the ridge in the Insert Ridges panel above Ridge Properties. The software applies changes to the ridge properties immediately in the preview image. Click the value in the preview image to change the length parameter. Edit the lead in and lead out properties by clicking the corresponding lead on the preview image.

Insert Multiple

Manipulation tools_CopyMatrix_count_ICON Count

Specifies how many ridges to insert.

Chamfer corner distance_ICON Distance

Specifies the distance between ridges. This parameter is only necessary when inserting multiple ridges simultaneously.

Parameters

The position points below define the direction of the ridge from the reference point. The reference point is the location in the work area where the ridge is inserted. The following position points are available:

Ridge_start point Start Point

Ridge_middle point Middle Point

Ridge_end point End Point

Ridge_offset ICON Offset

Specifies the location of the ridge with respect to the reference point. The offset direction is set by the position point. The offset is useful if you need to place a ridge with precision near a corner.

Chamfer corner distance_ICON Length

Specifies the length of the ridge (that is, the portion that is left uncut).

Actions

Ridge_Unify ICON Unify

Adds the properties of an activated ridge to other ridges. Only one ridge should be active when you click Unify Ridge_Unify ICON. You can then click ridges to unify in the work area.

To insert a ridge:

  1. Click the Technology tab.

  2. Click Ridge Ridge ICON to display the Insert Ridges options in the State Manager.

  3. (Optional) Click a lead on the preview image and make the necessary adjustments to the options in the State Manager. Click ESC to return to the Insert Ridges options.

  4. Type the number of ridges to insert in the Count Manipulation tools_CopyMatrix_count_ICON box. To insert multiple ridges, specify the Distance Chamfer corner distance_ICON between the ridges. Select the Whole profile to insert multiple ridges to the whole contour of profile. The software calculates the distance between ridges.

  5. Click the necessary position point.

  6. Specify the ridge length and offset under Parameters.

  7. Click a profile in the work area to insert the ridge.
