This section explains some of the basic concepts used in Cutting.

  • The Cutting application draws part geometries using drawing tools in the application Parts work area or using drawing tools imported from another source.

  • Because part geometries do not contain certain essential information required for nesting, such as the quantity of parts to nest, you must order part geometries before nesting the parts. You order part geometries using the Database window.

  • When ordering part geometry, you define additional information, such as quantity of parts geometries to nest, quality, thickness, and due date. The Cutting application then creates the order item and attaches the part geometry to the order item.

  • You can use the same part geometry in multiple order items. An order item can contain only one part geometry.

  • The order item is defined by its building number and row number. Therefore, order items might have the same building number provided that the row numbers are different.

  • After the order item is created, you can open the order item and plate material in the Nesting work area for nesting.

  • The tools in the Nesting work area nest the part geometries in order items and create cutting paths.

  • The application generates the NC program for the suitable cutting machine. Nesting and NC-program are saved as separate files to their predefined directories.

  • The application displays dimension values in the user interfaces and databases lists using metric or imperial units based on the unit of measure (UOM) defined in Smart Production.
