Hardware Recommendations

The recommended hardware configuration for the Smart P&ID workstation is as follows:

  • 16 GB RAM for Microsoft SQL Server or Oracle

  • 64-bit Bus Size, OS, and Database

Network Requirements

  • 1 GbE or higher network speed, latency must be less than 1 ms between the client and database server.

Recommended Disk Space

  • Oracle Client: 1.0 GB

  • Full installation of Smart P&ID: 0.4 GB

Additional disk space is required for software prerequisites and optional software that you install.

Supported Operating Systems

  • Microsoft Windows 10 (build v1903 or later) Professional and Enterprise (64-bit)

Smart P&ID is certified on Windows with UAC ‘On’ at Level 3 (Default)

Supported Database Clients

  • Oracle 18.3.0.*.* Client, 32-bit

  • Oracle 19.3.0.*.* Client, 32-bit

  • Microsoft .NET Framework 4.8 must be installed as a prerequisite for the installation of Oracle Client.

  • The client database software must be of the same version as the server database software.

  • Oracle 32-bit Client is required for both 32-bit and 64-bit Oracle databases.

  • Do not use Oracle 'light client' as it does not include some of the required .dll files.

  • Beginning with Windows 10 and Oracle 12.1.0.2, Microsoft and Oracle will enforce the Internet Host Table Specification RFC 952 which mandates that component hostname labels can contain only alphanumeric characters. Host names using underscores (‘_’) are not allowed. Refer to Oracle Support Articles 1603775.1 and 1957895.1 and Microsoft KB 101785.

Licensing Requirements

Smart P&ID 10 requires Intergraph Smart® Licensing 2019 or later.

A license is required to do any of the following for drawings in Smart P&ID Drawing Manager:

  • Open a drawing in Smart P&ID (includes opening the drawings in overlapping view)

  • Update

  • Batch update

  • Refresh template

  • Import

  • Copy/paste

  • Print (either from Drawing Manager or Smart P&ID)

A separate license is required for the following activities:

  • Schedule update

  • Schedule print

Therefore, at the time when a scheduled update or print is set to run, single license users will need to ensure that any other Drawing Manager activity that requires a license is not running.

All other Drawing Manager features do not require a license; these include: creating a new drawing, deleting a drawing, filtering the view, all revision and version activities, Projects, Workshare, Integration, and report activities.

Software Prerequisites

  • Microsoft .NET Core 2.2.

  • Google Chrome or Microsoft Internet Explorer or Microsoft Edge, required for viewing the Online documentation delivered with the software and the report generated from Rule Manager.

  • Microsoft Office 2019 or Microsoft Office 365 (32-bit), required for working with report templates, importing and generating reports, importing from SmartSketch, and saving drawings as MicroStation or AutoCAD.

  • Microsoft XML Core Services (MSXML) 6.0 Service Pack 1 or 6.0 Service Pack 3.

  • Microsoft Visual C++ 2017 for automation.

Optional Software

Apart from SmartSketch, Smart Engineering Manager, and Intergraph Smart® 3D S3DPIDClient, the following software programs are not Intergraph corporation software and are owned by third parties.  It is the responsibility of the customer to select at its sole discretion the applicable third-party software the customer desires to use to generate reports and Intergraph makes no recommendation as to the choice of said third-party software.  The customer is responsible for obtaining a valid license to use said third-party software from the owner of said third-party software and to pay any license fees to the owner of said third-party software for the use of said third-party software.  INTERGRAPH DISCLAIMS AND MAKES NO WARRANTY EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING THE WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY OR THE WARRANTIES OF FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE IN REGARD TO SAID THIRD-PARTY SOFTWARE.

  • For administrative functions, Smart Engineering Manager 11 or later.

  • Intergraph Smart 3D S3DPID Client 2019 (12.01.00.0928) or a later hot fix for use with Smart 3D 2019. This software is required for using Smart 3D specifications in the Smart P&ID Piping Specification Utility and is available on the Smart P&ID installation media.

  • Citrix XenApp 7.15 on Windows Server 2016 or 2019 (Standard or Enterprise).

  • One of the following drawing software programs (for compatibility with the 'Save As' feature):

    • SmartSketch 2018 or 10

    • Autodesk AutoCAD 2018

    • Bentley MicroStation V8
