You can upload barcodes from manufacturers or suppliers into the database using the Upload Barcodes option in Barcode Manager. The file must be in CSV format . You can upload a file By ColumnOrder, By ColumnName, By Ident, or By Tag. The basic difference between the CSV uploads based on column order and column name is in the formatting. An upload by By ColumnOrder, the formatting of the CSV must use Purchase Order, Line Number, Tag, Ident, Barcode. An upload by By ColumnName, the CSV formatting does not matter thereby allowing many more columns to be added.

Uploading barcodes from a supplier or vendor, associates the new barcodes to the internally generated barcodes for a PO. The uploaded barcodes do not replace the internally generated barcodes.

Barcode Manager now uses Metadefender to scan all the files that are uploaded. To scan attachments using Metadefender, the following conditions must be met:

  1. Smart Materials version 10.1.

  2. The DBA setting UPLOAD_FILE_SCAN_ENABLE is set to Y.

  3. Define the Metadefender API URL in the DBA Setting UPLOAD_FILE_SCAN_ENG_URL and auto configure it.

When uploading a supplier barcode, ensure that the supplier provided barcodes do not use the same initials as the internally generated barcodes. For example, if your internally generated barcodes begin with the initials ABC, the supplier provided barcodes must not use the same initials.

  • If you use multiple application servers in your MobileScan environment, all the servers must use the same company name for generating the barcode. If you generate a barcode on one AppServer with CompanyName1, and try to scan it on another AppServer that uses CompanyName2, MobileScan application would not be able to identify the barcode.

  • Use the same company name when you upgrade MobileScan to a newer version.

  • MobileScan application does not support barcodes in lower case or mixed case, for example, barcodes abc, aBc, or Xyz are not supported. When you upload the Excel sheet, the application converts all the barcodes uppercase. For example, abc to ABC and Xyz to XYZ.

  • The software treats the first row in the file as a header.

  • Use "." as the decimal separator in the CSV file. For example, US and Germany use "," as a decimal separator (1,1 instead of 1.1). Using "," as the decimal separator leads to barcode upload failure.

  • Do not use quotations for any of the values in the CSV file.

  • To add an alias to a line item, replace the value in the barcode column of the CSV file with an alias name.
