10.2

Being in Smart Materials Classic, will always take a license, also if only the menu is open. Idle sessions can be sniped by Oracle PMON using the DBA setting IDLE_TIME. The cleanup job will return licenses of sniped sessions regularly.

The disadvantage is that it is disruptive, and users cannot continue the work they started before they had the break and then got sniped. They must close the application and restart.

In order to release a license in Smart Materials Classic gracefully, user can choose Change Log In from the File menu before he leaves, and stay in the logon screen during his absence. Opening the Relogon screen will release the seat immediately. The advantage is that user only needs to press Cancel afterwards to re-acquire a license and return to the same login environment he worked in before.

Even if the idle session got sniped during user’s stay in Relogon screen, user can press Cancel button afterwards, to seamlessly re-connect to his old environment. Or he can choose another project or product group by selecting Working With.

Of course, the user would not be able to continue to return to the menu in case someone else uses 'his' license in the meantime and no more licenses are available.

In Smart Materials Web it is also possible to logout from the system to return the license. If logout in one tab is done, it will terminate all sessions in the same browser and return their license(s) immediately, if any.

If logout is not happening, the system will wait the idle timeout / maximum session length defined in APEX. After that the session(s) will be ended and the license(s) can be returned by clean-up job.

Calling the login page from a parallel tab, will end all sessions in other tabs of the same browser, and their licenses will be returned by clean-up job. For this reason it is highly recommended not to login from parallel tab.  Additionally, in this case the clean-up job will be waiting for the session timeout to return the licenses, which might take longer than the usual 15 minutes between two clean-up jobs.

It is possible to close single cloned pages by using the browser close-tab control (X). The tab-related license will be released (if not required by a page in another tab of the same browser). The release of license will happen within 5 minutes after close. Same way the whole browser can be closed using the browser control (X). The release of license(s) will happen within 5 minutes as well.

If the user receives a warning about extending the session before the idle timeout and chooses to cancel, the session may still be extended due to the behavior of Oracle APEX. To ensure the license is returned, log out or close the appropriate browser tab.
