  • To avoid a performance decrease, the Active indicator on the license module table is used. You can find the Active check box on A.30.04 License Modules/Menus screen in Smart Materials Classic or in the License Modules section on the Roles and Menus page in Smart Materials Web.

We recommend setting all license modules to inactive (by clearing Active check box) which you have not purchased. If a license module is set to inactive, the software does not try to get one of its seats from the keystore. Instead, it continues with the next license module in the list. For example, a customer who has only Smart Reference Data (SPRD) and Smart Materials (SPMAT) license, can update all the other license modules to inactive on their database. The effect would be, that the license modules in above list items 1 to 9 are not queried from the keystore, thus saving time.

Toggling between active and inactive will only apply to sessions which connect after the change was committed. It will not influence open sessions.

  • The location of the data center where keystores are hosted could theoretically impact performance.

  • The ISL configuration in the cloud can contain one or more projects where each project contains an ordered list of keystores that are accounted when a license is requested. From our experience it will take the more time the more keystores need to be queried for a seat. Thus it can make sense to setup your ISL configuration with performance in mind.

  • In certain scenarios, it can make sense to update the sequence defined in chapter License module order. This can be done in a SQL tool by updating the license module table. Let us assume, there is a customer with 10 SPRD seats and 100 SPMAT seats. Per default the system would consume an SPRD license on login, as SPRD it is cheaper than SPMAT license. But as most users are SMat users here, they would call an SMat screen after login, by that returning the SPRD seat and take an SPMAT license then. This back and forth could be omitted by changing the license order, so that SPMAT is before SPRD. This will save time for most users, and potentially avoid unnecessarily exhausting SPRD by waiting in the initial menu/dashboard.
