A milestone represents an event in the materials management workflow that describes a certain activity that should be monitored during the procurement, expediting, inspection, and logistics cycle and for which tracking of its planned completion time is a critical success factor. For example, such an event would be the issue of a requisition to procurement for inquiry or purchase.

In the Master Data navigation panel, select Procurement > Planning Setup.

On the Milestones tab, click Add Milestone
.

Enter a unique sequence number in the Seq cell.

Type the milestone name in the Label cell.

Type the description in the Short Description and Description cells.

Select the Type to specify where the date of this milestone is derived from.

Click Linked With
and select the column from which the date is derived.

Define the derivation rules for planned, forecasted and actual date, as described below.

The derivation rule for the actual date cannot be changed if you have specified Type and Linked With.

A cleared check box means no derivation rule defined.

Select Derive Planned/Forecasted/Actual Date.

Select the Derivation Type.

If the type is Property, select the Table and Property where the date will be retrieved from.

If the type is Physical, select the Table and Date Column where the date will be retrieved from.

If the type is Function, select the Function Code of the CIP function that is used to retrieve the date.

Optionally, enter the number of days to be added to the obtained date in the Add Days box.

Click Save.
