Purpose

This section explains how to import BOM data into Smart Materials. You can import the WBS together with the BOM positions, or you can import the BOM positions into a predefined WBS.

Exercise

  1. Open the B.40.01 BOM Import screen from the menu branch Smart Materials > E&PI (BOM) > B.40 BOM Utilities.

  2. Enter the name of the new BOM import job SDB001 into the Job Code field.

  3. Select from Excel Multi position Template from the dropdown list in the Data Source field.

  4. Click the button to fill the Import Path field.

  5. Click the button to start the upload of the data file from your local computer to the application server.

    Corresponding to the selected option, you must select an Excel sheet that was created based on the Multi Position Template (BOM_MultiPositionView_template.xls) delivered with the software.

    The picture below shows an example of an Excel file for BOM import.

    The Upload button opens a new browser window.

  6. Click the Browseā€¦ button to open a selection box, select the file PROJ3_002.xls to be uploaded, and click the Open button. Then click the Submit Query button in the browser window.

    When you receive the Upload Feedback message, close the browser window to go back to your Smart Materials session.

  7. On B.40.01, in the Runtime Options section, select ESTIMATE in the Issue Status field and 00-DEF in the List Status field, using the LOVs.

  8. Click the Save button to save the changes.

  9. To launch the import, click the button in the Job Control section on the lower right of the screen.

  10. Acknowledge the confirmation message with OK. If the job passed successfully, the MAR-15805 message is shown.

  11. Click OK to finish the job. In case of an error, analyze the log files to find out the cause.

  12. Click the buttons in the Job Execution Statistics section at the bottom to open the log file and error report of the import job.

  13. Click the button in the Job Control section on the right to open the SQL*Loader log.

  14. Click the button to open a new window displaying the BOM import protocol.

  15. Select the Errors only display option at the top of the screen to view only error messages.

  16. Close the screen by selecting File > Close All or Close from the main menu.

  17. Open the B.20.03 Adv. Maintain BOM screen to check the result of the import. Click the + sign to expand the root node PIPING. The new unit A300 was imported with the import job.

  18. Right-click the A300 node in the node tree, and select Expand All to expand the WBS tree underneath the selected node.

  19. Double-click on the sheet 01 underneath PIPING > A300 > ST-85001. This node has the path /PIPING/A300/ST-85001/01.

    The software opens Window 2 of B.20.03, displaying the Multi Position View tab.

    The Created By field in the Single Bulk Material View indicates that the position was created via import (LOAD).

  20. Close the screen by selecting File > Close All or Close from the main menu.
