Another way to insert BOM positions into an existing WBS or together with the WBS is to import the data from a CAD system, usually done in the design phase of a project.

For more information about the OMI (Open MTO Interface), see Open MTO Interface.

To import BOM data into Smart Materials, use the B.40.01 BOM Import screen.

First, create a new BOM import job. Define the name of the new job in the Job Code field. Then, select the source from the dropdown list in the Data Source field. Most common are the options from OMI ASCII file or from Excel Multi-position Template. The example in this section was done with the Excel template option. It is recommended to use the standard Excel template BOM_MultiPositionView_template.xls to ensure a properly formatted Excel sheet for import.

The Excel template file (BOM_MultiPositionView_template.xls) delivered with the software can be found in the <smatAS_HOME>\others\excel_templates folder on your application server.

Click the Default Dir button to fill the import path, and then click the Upload button to start the upload of the Excel file from your local computer to the application server. A new browser window opens.

Click the Browseā€¦ button to open a selection box, select the file to be uploaded, and click the Open button. Then click the Submit Query button in the browser window. When you receive the Upload Feedback message, close the browser window to go back to your Smart Materials session.

On B.40.01, in the Runtime Options section, you must select the Issue Status and List Status values from the LOV. Then save the job using the Save button.

To launch the import, click the Start button in the Job Control section in the lower right of the screen.

Acknowledge the confirmation message with OK. If the job passed successfully, the MAR-15805 message is shown.

Click OK to finish the job. In case of an error, analyze the log files to find out the cause.

In the Job Execution Statistics section at the bottom, the information relevant for the selected job is listed. Using the View buttons, you can open the log file and error report. In the Job Control section on the right, you can click View SQL*Loader Log File to open the SQL*Loader log. Click the View Import Protocol button to open a new window displaying the BOM import protocol.

Select the Errors only display option at the top of the screen to view only the error messages.

The Created By field on the Single Bulk Material View of B.20.03 indicates how the position was created: either manually on B.20.01 or B.20.03 (B2001 or B2003) or via import (LOAD).
