Before you can gather BOM position data, you must define the BOM work breakdown structure. The first step is to create a master node under which all other nodes will be placed. Most commonly, the master node represents the discipline.

If only one master node is allowed in the project or the project discipline, you must set the project default ZB_1MSTR to Y.

To define and enforce a fixed WBS (Work Breakdown Structure), the project default ZB_BOMHIER must be set to N.

To create the master node, open the B.20.03 Adv. Maintain BOM screen, right-click in the node tree field on the left side, and select Add Root Node.

A new window opens for you to define the new master node.

Select the Node Type from the LOV. Because the BOM hierarchy was set to fixed, the software automatically inserts the node type that is defined as master. Enter the node name into the Name field and the descriptions into the Short Desc and Description fields. Click OK to save the node and close the window.

Next, select the new master node on the node tree, right-click, and select Add Child Node.

The software opens the same window as displayed above for the master node creation. Proceed in the same way for the child node creation.

The picture below displays an example of a Work Breakdown Structure, defined for the hierarchy

  1. Discipline

  2. Unit

  3. Line

  4. Sheet

The left part of the screen shows the tree view of the WBS. In the middle part, you can activate the flat view of the WBS by selecting the Flat View check box. The selected node is highlighted with a blue background color. The right part of the screen displays the node properties on the Property tab. The attributes assigned to the node type of the selected node are displayed on the Attribute tab.

Enter a value and save.
