Smart Materials/Smart Reference Data Version
10.2

As explained in Database Layers, disciplines serve as the third layer of data integrity. The disciplines to be used in Smart Materials and Smart Reference Data must be defined on the A.10.09 Disciplines screen.

To define a discipline, enter the name in the Discipline field, an abbreviation in the Abbrev field and descriptions in the Short Desc and Description fields, and then save the record.

The second (Access Right Parts) block can be used to activate the part access control functionality for the selected discipline and the assigned projects. For more information about part access control, see Part Access Control.

The disciplines must be assigned to a product group to make them available for the projects that are created based on this product group. Use the A.10.10 Product Group/Disciplines screen to assign disciplines to product groups.

Select the product group from the LOV in the Product Group field and the discipline from the LOV in the Discipline field and save the record.

Next, assign the product group/discipline to the projects on A.20.07 to make it available for the user securities. For more information, read Project/Product Group.

For the material take off (MTO), you can define a discipline hierarchy. Normally, BOM data and also MTO type definition are controlled by discipline, that is, the login discipline of the user entering the data becomes the owner of that data.

Subsequently, an MTO job of that type will then take into account only BOM data of that discipline.

If for the discipline in question, a discipline structure has been set up, the MTO will take into account BOM data of any discipline within that structure.

Discipline structures can be defined on the A.10.19 Discipline Structures screen.

In the first (Disciplines) block, select the discipline from the LOV in the Discipline field. Next, select the child disciplines from the LOV in the Child Discipline field in the second (Discipline Structures) block. The disciplines entered in the second block will be assigned as child disciplines to the discipline selected in the first block.
