Item types are assigned to commodity codes and are used in the BOM, Requisition, MSCM, and Site modules of Smart Materials. Item types are defined on the A.10.15 Item Types screen.

To create an item type, select the item rule from the LOV in the Item Rule field. The available item rules are listed below.

Description

REF

Reference items

These items can be used as a placeholder on the BOM; they are never included in an MTO and thus only have the purpose of documentation.

ROT

Requisition without tag

An item type with this rule is needed for manually creating a commodity code on the R.30.01 Maintain Requisitions and P.50.07 Maintain Agreements screens.

SHP

Shape

Item types with this rule are used for OMI shape import.

SOT

Standard without tag

A tag number is not attached to the ident.

SWT

Standard with tag

The ident must be combined with a tag number.

TAB

Template (attribute based tag)

Attributes used on S.30.01 form a template; the attributes do not have particular values assigned. These values are assigned later on the B.20.01 or B.20.03 screens when the BOM is created.

TFM

Tagged fabricated items with milestones

On the BOM and in the MTO, there is no special logic associated with tagged fabricated items (spool pieces). In the MSCM (procurement) module, however, they can be tracked with the P.90 Fab Tracking screens.

TOM

Tagged without milestone

The tag number determines the ident. Milestones cannot be defined for TOM items.

TWM

Tagged with milestone

The tag number is the only attribute for building an ident. Milestones must be defined for TWM items.

Enter the item type in the Item Type field and descriptions in the Short Desc and Description fields. Select the Default indicator when this item type is to be used as the default for the selected item rule.

Only one item type of each item rule can be defined as the default.

The MTO check box is currently not in use. Select the Forecast check box if the forecast run should consider idents with this item type.

Select the Fab check box to specify which item rules will be used for fabrication tracking on P.90 Fab Tracking.
