Use the A.10.01 Languages screen to maintain languages. To use a multilingual environment, a language index must be assigned to each language that will be used. The index is a numeric value that must be entered in the Nls field (National Language Support), and the language itself must be entered in the Description field.

The Generate Nls check box indicates which languages are used to create the commodity code, ident description, and short description.

You can double-click in the Nls or Description field to open Window 2, where you can define the standard notations for the selected language.

Enter the notation code and the description. The notation code must be unique across the languages.

The notations are used by CMS (Component Management System) for the XML data import. For more information, see Manage mapping configurations.

The use of multiple languages enables the user to enter descriptions and short descriptions in any of the defined languages. Multilingual descriptions can be entered wherever the button is available to call the Translated Description window.

Further, login is possible with any of the defined languages, depending on the user security configuration. Descriptions will automatically be displayed in the login language. Finally, users can print reports in any predefined language.
