User groups are an association of users and their assigned disciplines. Users can be assigned to multiple user groups, depending on their range of application. User groups must be defined, disciplines and users assigned to that user group, and finally the user group must be assigned to a project group to make discipline-specific BOM attributes and their values visible in the position attributes block on the E&PI(BOM) screens B.20.01 and B.20.03.

The user groups are defined and maintained on the A.20.41 User Groups screen. In the first (User Groups) block, you define the user group with its name, short description, and description. Then you assign a list view in the List View Name field. These list views are defined on the A.20.06.11 Attribute Security screen. In the next (User Group Disciplines) block, disciplines are assigned to the selected user group. And finally in the third (Users) block, you assign users to the user group selected in the first block.

Project groups are defined on the A.20.42 Project Groups screen.

In the first (Project Groups) block, you define the project groups with name, short description, and description. The projects will be assigned to the project group in the second (Projects) block.

Use the A.20.43 Project Group/User Group screen to assign predefined user groups to predefined project groups.

New users are assigned to an existing user group and they immediately have the same access rights with regard to the BOM attributes as all other users of this group.
