To allow for the creation of log files and caching of large downloaded files, grant permission for the modification of files to the web server.

  1. Open Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager on your web server.

  2. Under Sites, right-click your Smart Interop Publisher web site name, and then select Edit Permissions.

  3. From WebServer Properties, select the Security tab.

  4. Check the permissions for the user listed as the Application Pool Identity of the application pool that contains the Web API. The IIS lists the Application Pool Identity user and displays in the Web API Configuration tool during configuration of the web site.

  5. If the user does not have modify permissions, click Edit.

  6. From Edit, select the Application Pool Identity user and select Modify permissions.

  7. In the File Explorer, navigate to the %SystemDrive%\inetpub folder, right-click, and then select Properties.

The Smart Interop Publisher Web Server log files are written to the %SystemDrive%\inetpub\logs\LogFiles folder.

  8. Add the Application Pool Identity user to the list of users.

  9. Select the Security tab, and then select Advanced under the list of permissions box.

  10. Select the Application Pool Identity user from the list of users, and click Change permissions.

  11. Grant the user Write permissions, and then select the option to replace all child object permission entries with inheritable permission entries from this object.

  12. Click OK.
