After installing Smart Instrumentation desktop you must configure the software to work with Web API's. The configuration is done in the Administration Module and Smart Instrumentation.
Administration Module

Open the Administration Module as a System Administrator.

From the Menu bar, select Activities > User.

In the User dialog box, select the Service account user.
This Service account login should be defined in SAM as the login for the Smart Instrumentation Web API. The same login is used to configure the IIS server.

Click Apply and close the Administration Module.
Smart Instrumentation Desktop

Open Smart Instrumentation desktop.

From the Menu bar, select File > Preferences.

Select General in the Menu pane of the Preferences dialog box.

Locate the Temporary folder path field, click the Browse button to navigate too and select the folder where you want the software save temporary files.

Locate the Output document folder (Web shared folder enabled) field, click the Browse button to navigate too and select the folder where you want the generated documents to be saved.

These folders must be UNC formated and have a shared path and read/write permissions for everyone.

The Temporary folder path must be mapped to a local drive.

In the Menu pane, select Specifications > Export/Import.

In the Export/Import preferences, locate the PSR working folder field, click the Browse button to navigate too and select the folder where you want the PSRs saved.

The PSR working folder path must be set to a local folder.

in the Menu pane, select SmartPlant Instrumentation Server.

From the Enhanced report format select list, select PDF.

In the Shared Web folder field, make sure the address displayed is the same as the Output document folder field.

Click OK.

These settings must be applied to all users who are running Web API's.

The Log file path must be set to the Service account's user profile path.

Restart the IIS on your server.
