Database configuration for Engineering and Schematics applications includes separate schemas for each application, its data dictionary, and for Smart Electrical, its reference data. In addition, the site server includes a site schema and site data dictionary schema and the plant structure includes a plant schema and plant data dictionary schema; these four schemas are common for all applications inside the plant structure and site server.

The diagram below shows a configuration consisting of a site server containing two plants, one with Smart P&ID and Smart Electrical associated and the other with Smart P&ID only associated.

In this configuration it is assumed that both applications are in the same database instance.

The schemas that would exist in the database for this configuration appear as follows:
