The copy plant structure procedure allows you to make a copy of an existing plant structure and use this copy as a template to create new plant structures in the same site or in a different site, and within or between different versions of Oracle and SQL server. The procedure has two stages:

Save Plant Structure

Use this command to save the plant structure you want to copy. See Save a Plant Structure.

Load Plant Structure

This wizard guides you through the process of loading and renaming the plant structure that you want to copy. See Load Plant Structure Wizard.

Requirements and Restrictions

  • When the plant you are copying has a custom hierarchy, you must create the custom hierarchy first in the target site before you load the saved plant structure.

  • You must select at least one application when you save or load a plant structure.

  • Because of differences between the SQL and Oracle column data type fields, when you copy a plant from a SQL database to an Oracle database that contains more than 2000 characters in the column data type fields, the copy process might fail if the SQL database contains non-ASCII characters. You can copy a plant from an Oracle database to an Oracle database, from an Oracle database to a SQL database, and from a SQL database to a SQL database without any problems. Contact Customer Support.

  • Copying, creating, and restoring different plants at the same site from two terminals simultaneously is not supported. A run-time error message "Object variable or With block variable not set" displays at both terminals.

Scope of Copied Items

When using the copy plant structure procedure, the following settings and features are not copied:

  • Workshare (for details, see Copying Project or Workshare Enabled Plants).

  • All integration settings and items such as registry information and To Do List tasks.

  • All Options Manager settings related to PDS and Smart 3D (values are blank in the copied plant).

  • For an ABE related item, the Smart P&ID Source Tag property.

  • The zip file is created using Windows Compressed Folder. While third party file compression tools such as WinZip can be used to view or extract the compressed files, they should not be used to create the zip files.

  • When saving a plant structure that is associated with Smart P&ID or Smart Electrical, you can select whether or not to include revisions with the saved plant structure. For Smart P&ID, if you choose to include revisions, you can also specify whether or not the created package will also save drawing versions associated with those revisions.

  • When saving a plant structure that is associated with Smart P&ID, display sets are included among the copied items.

  • When selecting the Save Projects option in the Save Plant Structure dialog, the copied plant structure includes its projects.
