This procedure explains how to save a single line diagram as an external file.

  • When saving a drawing in AutoCAD format, you must specify the AutoCAD version prior to saving. To set the AutoCAD version, do the following:

    1. Open a drawing.

    2. Select Tools > Options.

    3. On the Options dialog, select the Foreign Data tab and select AutoCAD from the Format list.

    4. In the Export box, select Options.

    5. On the AutoCAD Export Options dialog, select the appropriate AutoCAD version.

  • When saving a single line diagram to AutoCAD or MicroStation, you can you can assign items to different layers in the external file.

Assign items to different layers for AutoCAD or MicroStation

This option applies to conventional single line diagrams only. Assignment to layers is not supported for composite SLDs.

  1. In the folder where your plant was created using Smart Engineering Manager, create an Excel worksheet named ExportLayer.xlsx.

  2. In the first row, type headers Filter in Column A and Layer in Column B.

  3. In Column A, type the names of the filters to be used for assigning your items to specified layers.

The filter names in Column A must exactly match the names of the filters defined in Filter Manager for your plant.

  4. In Column B, type the names of the layers to be created in the exported drawing file. You may use any alphanumeric string for the layer name.

An example is shown in the table:

    Filter

    Layer

    Cabinet operating case data

    01

    Motor operating case data

    01

    Power Cables

    02

    Grounding Cables

    02

    Instrument Cables

    03

    Instrument - New

    New Instr

  5. Save the Excel file.

  • If a filter name in the Excel sheet does not exist in Filter Manager, that value will be ignored and the affected items will go to the default layer.

  • If a filter appears more than once in Column A, only the first occurrence of the filter is honored.

  2. Select File > Save As.

  3. On the Save As dialog, enter a file path where you want to save the drawing.
