You can use the Clip tool on the 3D navigator Toolbar to view and select model objects (such as components, drawings, spools, or assemblies) within a specified volume.

  1. Click Clip on the Toolbar to activate the Clip tool.

  2. Select the type of object to be included in the volume in the Get [Objects] by Volume dialog box.

The Included objects toggle switch on the Get [Objects] by Volume dialog box controls how objects are selected within the clipping box. With Full enabled, only objects that are fully enclosed within the box are selected. With Partial enabled, any objects within the box, including partially enclosed objects, are included in the selection.

  3. Adjust the size and display of the volume in the model using the Clip tool:

    • When the Clip tool is first enabled, the clipping adjustment toolbar appears at the bottom of the view. If this toolbar is collapsed, clipping is still enabled but the ability to adjust the clipping volume is disabled until the toolbar is expanded again by clicking the icon.

    • Click Invert on the clipping toolbar to hide the objects inside the wireframe clipping box. You can use this feature to reveal objects that are hard to see.

    • Select a clipping plane and then click Delete Clipping Plane on the clipping toolbar to remove that plane. You can use this feature to show all objects the plane had hidden. Click Delete again to restore the previously-removed plane.

    • Click Reset Clipping on the clipping toolbar to reset the clipping volume so that any modified clipping size adjustments or deleted planes return to their original state when you started clipping. This feature activates after you make the first adjustment.

  4. Click Get Objects to view the list of objects within the specified volume. These objects can be added to IWPs.

On some construction projects, fabrication might require modifications to the engineering data. For more information, see Plan components with fabrication changes.

SHARED Tip You can select one or more objects first and then activate the Clip tool to quickly create a six-sided clipping volume around the selected objects.
