You can import component data from an .xlsx file format only.

It is recommended to export the existing component data to Excel and use that to import the data.

When should I import component data?

You should import component data when you want to add data or make changes to the previously loaded data.

Who can import component data?

You can import component data if you have the SPC_ImportComponents access group associated to your role and have Write access type to the component category columns.

What data can I import?

You can import component properties that are editable, that is, not retrieved or published from an authoring tool. For more information, see Configure columns for component category.

I'm trying to import some data, but the Import button is not enabled. Why?

  • There are not any editable properties available to import.

  • You have not mapped any data to the component category columns.

  • You have not mapped the UoM value column and its corresponding UoM column to the component category columns.

How do I import a column with UoM?

In the source workbook, the UoM and its value must be in two separate columns.

You must map the Excel columns containing the value and its units to the corresponding list items using Import to in the Import dialog box. For example, if the source workbook contains the columns, Size and Units, you must map these columns to the Size and Size UOM list items.

  1. Click Import Data in the [component category name] window.

  2. In the Import into [component category name] window, type or browse to the source workbook file path.

  3. Select the worksheet to be imported.

If the source workbook file contains unique identifiers (UIDs), the corresponding column header should be named UID and should be in the top row of the worksheet.

The grid displays only the first few rows from the Excel file.

  4. Map the component category columns to the loaded data.

    • If the source workbook file contains UIDs, you only need to map the component properties to the Excel columns using Import to in the Import dialog box.

    • If the source workbook file does not contain UIDs, you need to map the identifier and the component properties to the Excel columns using Identifier and Import to respectively in the Import dialog box.

    • Using Save Mapping As, you can save the mapping information for future use.

    • The mapping type defaults to Custom when a worksheet is selected. You can also select previously saved mapping types.

    • Using Skip Top, you can skip a defined number of rows from the top of the worksheet.

  5. Click Import.

A summary of the processed information is saved as [Workbook file name].log in the same location from which the file was imported.
