Planned hours and a crew size must be specified for IWPs when you calculate duration.

How is duration calculated?

Duration is calculated for each selected IWP using the formula:

Duration = (Planned Hours) / (Crew Size * Hours Worked Per Day)

The Planned Finish date is updated based on the formula:

Planned Finish Date = Planned Start Date + Duration

What's the difference between a working day and a non-working day?

A working day is a day on the calendar when work is done. A non-working day is when work is not done. SmartPlant Foundation administrators can specify working and non-working days in the system calendar in SmartPlant Foundation Desktop Client. For more information, see Configure the SmartPlant Foundation System Calendar for the Smart Construction Work Package Schedule window.

When you specify non-working days, you can choose to ignore them in calculating duration and crew size. If you ignore the non-working day in your calculation, the non-working day would be considered a work day. If you include the non-working in your calculation, work does not occur on a non-working day. For example, if you set non-working days for Saturday and Sunday and duration is calculated for five days with work starting on Thursday and non-working days are included, Smart Construction calculates the IWP to end on Wednesday.

If you set non-working days for Saturday and Sunday and duration is calculated for five days with work starting on Thursday and non-working days are ignored, Smart Construction calculates the IWP to end on Monday.

Calculate duration from an IWP

  1. Open the Schedule window of an IWP.

  2. Click Calculate duration .

  3. On the Calculate Duration dialog box, type a value in the Hours worked per day box.

  4. Select Ignore non-working days to treat non-working days as regular work days when calculating duration.

When you specify non-working days, you can choose to ignore them, so the non-working day would be considered a work day. If you include them, work does not occur on a non-working day.

  5. Click Calculate to calculate the duration and update the Planned Finish date for IWPs selected in the Calculate Duration column.

If a Planned Start date is not defined, the Planned Start date is set to the current date. The Planned Finish date is calculated as the Planned Start date + duration.

  6. Select Ignore non-working days to treat non-working days as regular work days when calculating duration.

When you specify non-working days, you can choose to ignore them, so the non-working day would be considered a work day. If you include them, work does not occur on a non-working day.

  7. Click Calculate to calculate the duration and update the Planned Finish date for IWPs selected in the Calculate Duration column.

Click the Actual/Planned toggle key to change between Planned and Actual dates on the Work Package Schedule window. Planned dates display in blue, and Actual dates display in green. When you select Planned, the Work Package Schedule window displays Planned dates for each IWP. If no planned dates are set, the window displays any Actual dates that are set. When you select Actual, the Work Package Schedule window displays Actual dates for each IWP. If no actual dates are set, the window displays any Planned dates that are set. If Planned and Actual dates are not set, the Work Package Schedule window displays start date as today's date and finish date as next day's date.

If no Planned Start date is set, Calculate Duration check box is not displayed and the Calculate Duration option in Actions menu is disabled. If Actual Finish date is set, Calculate Duration check box is not displayed and the Calculate Duration option in Actions menu is disabled.
