You can automatically populate the Material Request window based on engineering components, component register items, and work steps added to the IWP. When you automatically populate the Material Request form, implied materials like nuts, bolts, and gaskets are also populated, when available.

  1. Click Work Packages on the project home page.

  2. Select an IWP from the Work Packages browser.

  3. Click Material Request to open the Material Request window. As the window opens, it is populated with material requests based on the components added to the IWP.

  4. Select the Include option to include the material request in the IWP.

Clear the Include option to remove the material request from the IWP.

  5. Double-click the Notes column to add notes.

  6. Type notes in the Notes column.

  7. Press ENTER to save changes.

  • Material request items are added according to how a component is modeled in the authoring tool. When you add a spool to an IWP or view a spool in a model or drawing, Smart Construction treats the spool as it was modeled in the authoring tool. For example, if supports were included as part of a spool, Smart Construction adds supports to an IWP as part of the spool and displays the supports as part of the spool.

  • You can open the drawing related to a material item. Click the drawing name in the Drawings column to open.

  • When you update components in an IWP (remove or manually add components), the Material Request form is updated and refreshed when you open the Material Request window.

  • When components are automatically populated on the Material Request form, you cannot edit the entries in the Material Request form.

  • If a material description has not been defined for a material request, Smart Construction displays an alert to the user and includes the items on the Material Request form using the name of the component.
