You can use planning groups to control the scope of certain functionality in Smart Construction to a specific group of users. Users of the same planning group can update objects owned by other members of the same owning group.

In order to create and configure planning groups, Smart Construction administrators must first create a planning group role, and then associate that role with users. For information on creating and configuring roles and managing role assignments, see Create and manage role assignments. Smart Construction delivers an example planning group, Planning Group A, which can be associated with users. For information on the access groups associated with Planning Group A, see the matrix in Configure access groups.

Using the project configuration data, you can associate the new planning group to contractors, contracts, or CWPs, depending on your implementation. For more information, see Import project configuration data into Smart Construction.

For example, you could use a planning group and project configuration data to control the scope for planners in their work packaging activities. Members of a planning group could update IWPs that were created by other members of the same planning group. In this scenario, members of a planning group can select their planning group name in the Work Packages browser in the Smart Construction client to view IWPs owned by members of their planning group. For another example, see Example planning group configuration.
