Displays properties for designed members. Designed members are composed of individual plates in the same fashion as a standard rolled member. For example, a designed member with a W-section has a plate for the top flange, a plate for the web, and a plate for the bottom flange. These plates behave just like all other plates in the model, which means you can detail and manufacture the plates in the Structural Detailing and Structural Manufacturing tasks. You can even edit the properties of the individual plates to adjust the plate thickness, for example, without affecting the designed member's cross-section. Because designed members are composed of plates, you can place members in the model that are prismatic, tapered, and non-prismatic. Use designed members to place tapered, can, cone, haunch, and other specialty members in your model.

The order in which the properties display in your view depends on your configuration.

Approval State

Specifies the status of the selected object or filter. Changing this property sets the Status. The display depends on your access level. You might be unable to change the status of the object. The list is defined by the ApprovalStatus codelist.

Smart 3Dx saves an object to the database when you change that object's status. Use Undo (CTRL + Z) to reverse the status change.

You can only edit or manipulate an object with a status of Working.

Area

Specifies the cross-section area for the object. This property is read-only. To change this value, edit the object properties in Catalog or in the corresponding workbook.

Cardinal Point

Specifies the relative position of the structural cross-section to the member placement line. Nine cardinal positions (1 -9) are available. The location of cardinal points 10 (center-of-gravity) and 15 (shear center) depend on the section shape. The local z-axis of the member and the center-of-gravity point of the section define cardinal points 11 and 14. The local y-axis of the member and the center-of-gravity point of the section define cardinal points 12 and 13. Cardinal points 10 through 15 are unavailable for designed members or cans.

Created by

Specifies the name of the person who created the object.

Date Created

Specifies the creation date of the object.

Date Last Modified

Specifies the date of the last modification to the object.

Dry Center of Gravity

Specifies the location of the dry center-of-gravity for the object.

Dry Weight

Specifies the dry weight of the object.

Hyperlink

Specifies the URL or local file path associated with the object. Click the hyperlink to open the page or object in your default browser. Point to the hyperlink to display the URL or path as a tooltip.

Description

Specifies the descriptive text associated with the hyperlink.

URL

Specifies the web address or local file name associated with the hyperlink. The URL must include the protocol, such as http: or https:, as well as the domain name. For example, https://hexagonppm.com/.

Is Rule Based

Indicates whether the designed member is created or controlled by a rule.

Last Modified by

Specifies the name of the person who last modified the object.

Length

Specifies the object length.

Name

Specifies the name of the selected object. If the name is too long to entirely display in the box, point to the box to display the complete name as a tool tip. If the name is not defined by a rule, User Defined displays. If this name is generated by a naming rule, Naming Rule displays. If you type a name in this box, Smart 3Dx automatically changes the naming rule to User Defined.

Parent System

Specifies the parent system for the object. Recently used systems that are appropriate to assign as the parent system for this object as well as the Select from Workspace and Select from Model options display in the list. The most recently used system displays at the top.

The parent system of the object must have an Approval Status of Working before you can change the Parent System value. If the Approval Status of the parent system is not set to Working, this value is read-only.

Select Interactively

Turns on or off the interactive selection. When this option is on, you can select the parent object in a graphic view or any of the explorers.

Select from Workspace ICON Select from Workspace

Displays the Select Parent System Dialog with the Workspace tab open. The workspace is the subset of the active model database you specified when you started your design session. Navigate the hierarchy to select the parent system, and then click OK.

Select from Model ICON Select from Model

Displays the Select Parent System Dialog with the Model tab open. The model is all of the objects in the active model database, including those that are not part of your workspace. Navigate the hierarchy to select the parent system, and then click OK.

Part Definition

Specifies the part information for the object, the properties, and their values, as defined in the reference data. For information about the information defined in the reference data, see the appropriate Reference Data Help.

Priority

Specifies the priority assigned to the object system. Smart 3Dx uses the priority to group objects. To change the options on the list, edit the Structural Member Priority select list in Catalog.

Section Name

Specifies the cross-section for the member. If you know the section name, type it in. You can use the asterisk [*] character wildcard to see all sections that contain that text. For example, type W10X* to see all W10X sections in the catalog. Select More to browse the catalog for the section to use. Sections are defined in the reference data. See Structural Reference Data Overview for more information about reference data.

Section Standard

Specifies the cross-section library from which to select the cross section. Section libraries and cross-sections are defined in the reference data.

Section Type

Specifies the profile cross-section type. Depending on the selected Section Standard, different section types (W, MT, L, and so forth) are available.

Type Category

Specifies the type category of the member, such as a beam or a column. The available member type and properties change depending on the member type category that you select. You can define a custom member type category by editing the Structural Member Type list in the Catalog task.

Wet Center of Gravity

Specifies the location of the wet center-of-gravity for the object.
