A chamfer object is a plate-edge bevel that is added to properly trim the plate. Chamfers are created when plates are detailed in the Structural Detailing task. A chamfer is placed automatically by the assembly connection, based on the thickness difference of two connected plate parts. In general, the chamfer is determined only by the geometry, and you do not change the result.

Chamfers can be single-sided or double-sided, and apply to both edge-to-edge (butt) connections, and edge-to-face (tee) connections.

Chamfer selection at the assembly connection level also provides information used by welds in physical connections, including the welding type. For more information, see Physical Connections.
