The testing catalog that is delivered with the software provides a general starter set of reference data. As you customize this starter set to match your own needs and practices, those changes should be bulkloaded into a custom database.

The custom Catalog is created using spreadsheets. These spreadsheets are then bulkloaded into a database using the Bulkload utility.

Bulkload

The Bulkload utility loads data into the database. It reads spreadsheets and uses them to create rows of data in the Catalog database. By default, the Bulkload utility is delivered to the [Product Folder]\CatalogData\Bulkload\Bin\Bulkload.exe file. When you use the Bulkload utility, you perform the following tasks:

  1. Specify the Bulkload files to load.

  2. Specify the Codelist files to load.

  3. Select the mode to use. You can select from the following:

    • Create a new Catalog database.

    • Append files to an existing Catalog database to create new classes

    • Add, modify, or delete items. This option does not create new classes

    • Delete and replace classes in an existing Catalog database. This option does not create new classes.

  4. Select the server and catalog schema.

  5. Specify a file for the resulting database.

  • Specify the codelist spreadsheets in the Excel codelist files box. Specify all the other spreadsheets in the Excel files box.

  • Create a new log for each file that you bulkload. Do not overwrite the existing log file.

  • Check the log file for errors after each bulkload.

  • Backup your data often. Should an error occur, it is easy to restore and correct the error if you have a current backup.

Create a Custom Catalog

To create a new Catalog database, perform the following tasks:

  1. Restore a new Catalog database.

  2. Update the Catalog Schema database.

  3. Create a new Model database.

  4. Bulkload the Molded Forms spreadsheets.

  5. Bulkload the Structural Detailing spreadsheets.

  6. Bulkload the Level 4 spreadsheets.

Restore a Catalog Database

Start the Smart 3D Database Wizard. You can either select an existing Site database, or you can create a new one. Select the Site and Schema to contain the new Catalog database.

Update the Catalog Schema database

Restore the delivered catalogdb.dat file. This loads the basic SmartPlant 3D® reference data with no Smart 3D data. The delivered catalogdb.dat file creates both a Catalog database and a Catalog Schema database. The Catalog Schema database must be updated to add Smart 3D tables.

Use the UpdateSchemaandDB.exe utility to add registered Smart 3D data to the schema database. By default, this utility is delivered to the [Product Folder]\ProjectMgmt\Tool\Bin\UpdateSchemaandDB.exe file.

To use this utility, do the following:

  1. Start the utility.

  2. Select the server and Schema database.

  3. Click Check Version.

  4. Click Update Schema.

  5. When the update completes, click Update BOC.

  6. Close the dialog box.

Create a Model Database

To test the custom Catalog, you must create a Model that points to the Catalog and Catalog Schema databases. To create the model, do the following:

  1. Start the Project environment.

  2. Click Database > New > Ship.

  3. Type a name for the project.

  4. Select the customized Catalog, and then type information for the new Model and Reports databases.

Bulkload Ship Catalog Data

Ship drawings data is additional Smart 3D data appended to SmartPlant 3D data. The data is dependent upon rules. You must register all of the custom .DLL files on the computer before you bulkload the data.

Bulkload the following ship catalog data files in Append mode. By default, these files are delivered to the [Product Folder]\ShipCatalogData\Bulkload\DataFiles\Add_Marine folder.
