Dummy planes are temporary inputs for target objects when the family definition cannot locate the corresponding target frame. You can create dummy planes, and then replace the temporary inputs with appropriate inputs later.

Family Type

Dummy Plane Created

Scenario

Similar Family

Yes

The created object uses an input frame that is not in the Similar Family, and the object belongs to a different coordinate system. Smart 3D creates a Dummy Plane for the target object input.

Symmetry Family

Yes

The Symmetry Family source is port, the target is starboard, and the Symmetry Family uses multiple coordinate systems. If you delete a frame on the target's starboard side, Smart 3D creates a Dummy Plane for the target.

Across Models Family

Yes

The created object uses an input frame that is not in the Across Models Family creation. Smart 3D creates a Dummy Plane for the target object input.
