The following procedures create a bracket part that can be placed from the catalog database.

Copy and Rename an Existing Bracket Symbol

  1. Open the file using the Symbol2D environment.

  2. Delete any existing geometry from the file.

  3. Click Tools > Add-Ins and display the Bracket ribbon bar.

Create the Bracket Supports

  1. Sketch three input splines using the Curve command.

  2. Lock the elements by clicking Lock and selecting each spline.

Place the Support Elements on Layers

  1. Click Tools > Layers to display the Layer ribbon bar.

  2. Select the left and center elements, then click Change Layer to move those elements to the Trim_By layer.

  3. Select the right element and move it to the Inputs layer.

Create Input Groups

  • Create a group for each support.

Name the Support Groups

  1. Click Name Graphic Inputs.

  2. Click Name and type the support name in the Value box, then click Apply.

    Name all of the supports. You must use the following naming order and selection order.

Create the Bracket Geometry

  1. Sketch the brackets geometry on the Outputs layer.

  2. Make sure that the bracket geometry forms a closed contour with the support elements on the Trim_By layer.

Group the Bracket Geometry

  1. Press the CTRL key, and select the output segments in a clockwise sequence.

  2. Click Group.

Dimension the Geometry

  • Place the dimensions on the Dimensions layer.

Assign Parameter Names

  1. Click Symbol Properties, and click the Parameters tab. Add parameter names to the dimensions.

    The parameter names must match the names in the bulkload file.

Assign the Bracket Geometry Group to the Contour Representation

  • Click Symbol Representation.

Save the File

  1. Save the symbol with a .SYM extension.

  2. Before you close the file, check the symbol's timestamp to verify that it was saved. If it was not, click Save As and overwrite the file.

  3. Save the file to the symbol share, under the [SharedContent Folder]\MarineLibrary\Brackets folder.

Modify the Visual Basic Rules

  • Add new Smart Items to the proper selector, then save and recompile the project.

Modify the Bulkload Spreadsheet.

  • Modify the [Product Folder]\StructDetail\ShipCatalogData\BulkLoad\DataFiles\StructDetail\SM_SRDBrackets.xls file to add the new bracket.

Bulkload the Symbol

  • Bulkload in Append or Add mode.

Place the New Bracket in the Model
