All angle parameters that are applied to the physical connection have two options for the method of beveling: Constant or Varying.

Constant means that the bevel angle is measured from a vertical representing the normal or square-cut edge of the plate or profile that is being beveled. This line is also referred to as the Normal of the plate’s face, or the Normal of the profile’s landing curve.

The Varying bevel method is primarily used for plates that are welded to shell plates or other curved structure. If the method is set to varying, the bevel angle changes along its length to maintain the required opening angle. The angle is measured from the face of the bounding object, instead of from the vertical line (plate normal).

Angles that have been defined with a Varying method are handled differently in Structural Manufacturing. The angle of the bevel is changing along the length of the plate, but only a single bevel angle is the output at the Structural Detailing level. Structural Manufacturing divides the plate edge into intervals based on changes in the mounting angle between objects. The bevel angle is re-calculated for each interval. To avoid setting a single bevel angle that could not be interpreted by manufacturing, detailing outputs only the required opening angle. Structural Manufacturing calculates the values that are measured from the vertical line to achieve this opening angle for each segment of the varying weld.
