  1. Locate the R3D port from which you want to route a pipe.

  2. Click Route Pipe Command on the vertical toolbar.

  3. Press and hold the S key.

  4. Select a reference 3D port, and then click to route the pipe run. If the reference 3D port is not available, hover the mouse on the end of the reference 3D object until the Circle 3d SSK_CenterPoint, Revolution 3d SSK_PointOnSurface, or Ruled Surface SSK_PointOnSurface glyph displays, and then click to route the pipe run. Similarly, if the reference 3D ports are not available for turns or reducers, select a point close to port 1, the software routes in the direction of port 1. If you select a point close to port 2, the software routes in the direction of port 2.

  5. On the New Pipe Run Dialog, select the parent Pipeline. If there are no pipeline systems defined in the Workspace Explorer create a new pipeline system. Alternatively, select a pipeline system from the database to which to associate the new pipe run.

The software does not display the Reference 3D tab.

  6. In the Name box, type a name for the pipe run. If you do not specify a name, the software automatically generates a name.

  7. Click OK to close the New Pipe Run Dialog.

  8. Continue routing.

The software does not connect the pipe run to the R3D port.

  9. Right-click to end the routing.
