After translating the source files to the Smart Model format, you then use the Generate SIO Utility in Smart 3D to import the Smart Model data into the Smart 3D database as Smart Interop Objects. This involves mapping custom properties or custom select lists from the ISIP schema to the Smart 3D SIO schema. Make sure you have a Smart 3D property to which you can map your custom property. If there is no Smart Interop 3D property to map your custom property, you must add your custom property to a Smart 3D Interop class definition. See Interfaces and Categories in the Smart 3D Catalog Help. After import, the Smart Interop Objects display in the system hierarchy as persisted Smart 3D design objects.

  1. Locate the SPIOPtoSIOMapping file in the Smart 3D shared content folder. The default location is [install drive]:Program Files (x86)\Smart 3D\3DRefData\SharedContent\Data\Reference3DComponents.

  2. Add your custom classes, interfaces, and properties and map them to SIO classes, interfaces, and properties.

  3. Save your edits and close the SIO mapping file.

  4. Click Start > Smart 3D > Modify Database and Schema Location and select your site.

  5. Click Start > Smart 3D Generate SIO to open the Generate SIO Utility. If the utility does not display on your Start menu, navigate to [Product Folder]\ProjectMgmt\Tools\bin, and then double-click GenerateSIO.exe.

  6. In Source Folder, select the folder that contains the translated .zvf, .mdb2, and .json files to convert to Smart Interop Objects.

  7. Select the model in which to create the Smart Interop Objects.

  8. Assign the Smart Interop Objects to a permission group. You can copy the extracted PDS model data files to individual folders based on discipline. While generating the SIO objects, you can individually select these folders and load them with the respective permission group

  9. Click Generate. When the process finishes, a message displays in the Status box.

To view processing results, click View Log before closing the utility.

  10. If your model data contains walls and slabs, continue to Associate Layers to SIO Walls and Slabs.

  11. Run the Detect and Repair Hangers Missing Relationships Custom Command to create missing relationships for the supports and to correct the support position. Data must be corrected before synchronizing SIO objects to SDx.

The first time that you add Smart Interop Objects to a model, Smart 3D updates that model and its catalog with additional schema information. This schema update requires the regeneration of the model and catalog database views. Depending on the size of the model, the process could take a while to complete.
