The SM_StructCommon.xls workbook defines standard structural catalog properties and attributes, such as allowable materials, plate thicknesses, plate stock, and profile cross-section mounting faces and load points. The workbook is delivered to the [Product Folder]\ShipCatalogData\BulkLoad\DataFiles folder and is bulkloaded into the catalog.

Material Worksheet

Defines the material types in the catalog.

  • MaterialType - Type of material, such as carbon steel or corrosion resistant alloy. Any text value is valid.

  • MaterialGrade - Material grade, usually as designated by a standards association such as ASTM A36. Any text value is valid.

  • Density - Mass per volume of the material. Any positive real value is valid. Include units, such as lbm/ft^3 or kg/m^3.

  • MaxTension - Maximum tensile strength. Any positive real value is valid. Include units, such as ksi or Pa.

  • YieldStress - Yield strength, Fy. Any positive real value is valid. Include units, such as psi or Pa.

  • ElasticModulus - Modulus of elasticity, E. Any positive real value is valid. Include units, such as ksi or Pa.

  • PoissonRatio - Poisson's ratio, ยต. Any positive real value is valid.

  • ShearModulus - Shear modulus, G. Any positive real value is valid. Include units, such as psi or Pa.

  • Other mechanical properties - Other mechanical properties such as MaxCompression and UltimateStress. Each has a default placeholder value of 1. You can add real values.

  • Thermal properties - Additional properties such as ThermExpCoeff and Specific Heat. Each has a default placeholder value of 1. You can add real values.

MatlThkRange Worksheet

Defines the allowable thickness range for each combination of material type and material grade.

  • MaterialType - Type of material, such as carbon steel or corrosion resistant alloy. Can be any text value, but must match a value on the Material worksheet.

  • MaterialGrade - Material grade, usually as designated by a standards association such as ASTM A36. Can be any text value, but must match a value on the Material worksheet.

  • ThkLow - Specifies the minimum allowable thickness. Any positive real value is valid. Include units, such as in or mm.

  • ThkHigh - Specifies the maximum allowable thickness. Any positive real value is valid. Include units, such as in or mm.

PlateDimensions Worksheet

Defines the allowable plate dimensions. The Head section defines individual smart items.

  • Thickness - List of thickness values. Any positive real value is valid. Include units, such as in or mm. The smallest value must be less than the smallest value on the MatlThkRange worksheet. The largest value must be greater than the largest value on the MatlThkRange worksheet.

Values on the MatlThkRange and PlateDimensions worksheets are combined with values from the StructPlateDimensions.xls workbook, loaded as part of catalog data for the Structure task. For more information, see Structural Reference Data in the Structure Reference Data Guide.

ProfileGroups Worksheet

This worksheet is not used. Do not modify.

CrossSectionType Worksheet

Defines the mounting face and load point options available for each cross-section type.

  • Name - Name of the cross-section type that matches a CrossSectionType in the Profile Cross-Sections workbook. For more information, see Profile Cross-Sections Workbook.

  • Picture - Symbol icon file containing a general picture of the cross-section type. For more information, see Symbol Icons.

  • MountingFace Number - Unique number to identify the profile mounting face.

MountingFace numbers are different from the codelist numbers contained in the CrossSectionEdges worksheet of the AllCodeLists.xls workbook. AllCodeLists.xls is delivered to the [Product Folder]\CatalogData\BulkLoad\Datafiles folder. For more information, see Cross Section Edges in the Reference Data Guide.

  • MountingFace Picture - Symbol icon file containing a picture of the cross-section type and the location of the mounting face. The files are delivered to the [Reference Data Folder]\SharedContent\CrossSectionType folder, must be in .bmp format, and have dimensions of 32 pixels by 32 pixels. For more information, see Symbol Icons.

  • LoadPoint Number - Unique number to identify the profile load point. The LoadPoint Number corresponds with the key point numbering conventions in the cross-section symbol file. For more information, see Key Point Numbering Conventions and Creating Profile Cross Sections Common Tasks in the 2D Symbols User's Guide.

  • LoadPoint Picture - Symbol icon file containing a picture of the cross-section type and the location of the load point. For more information, see Symbol Icons.
