Each organization using Material Handling requires customized reference data such as catalog items, symbols, and rules to meet their exact needs.

Before working with Material Handling reference data, you must be familiar with how the software generally handles reference data. If you have not already done so, please review the following important concepts and procedures described in the Reference Data Guide:

  • Reference data types

  • Using Excel workbooks to configure reference data

  • Using the bulkload modes

  • Creating 2D symbols using the 2D Symbols utility

  • Creating a graphical preview

This reference data guide describes the example Materials Handling reference data delivered with the software:

  • 2D symbol files are delivered for the symbols.

  • Microsoft Excel workbooks are delivered for bulkloading specifications, cross-sections, and symbols into the catalog.

  • Symbol icon bitmap files are delivered for graphical previews that appear in the Catalog task.

  • XML files are delivered for drawing packages, view styles, templates, and labels.

Material Handling also uses reference data, such as rules, from other Smart 3D tasks. For more information, see the related reference data guides.
