In many cases, the materials engineer may not define the human spec clearly enough to provide the data required to complete the piping specification. The following list identifies the types of data that are typically not included in the traditional format of a human spec, but are required to clearly document the requirements. It is essential that you, the piping specification writer, obtain these requirements from the materials engineer.

  • Minimum pipe lengths

  • Bolt extensions

  • 'Out of spec' odd items that are considered to be 'standard'

  • 'Assumed' nipples

  • 'Assumed' taps
