Before you can share data between Smart 3D and HxGN SDx2, you must authenticate and register each model with a plant in HxGN SDx2.

  • Before you register a model with HxGN SDx2, you must ensure that the following requirements have been met:

    • Smart 3D is configured for an integrated environment. See Working in an Integrated Environment in Intergraph Smart 3D Installation.

    • You have Full Control permissions at the model level.

    • You have Delete access to existing WBS projects and Write access to their immediate child items.

    • Your administrator has created a new client in the Authorization server, specifying all the details such as the Client ID. Make sure that you have obtained the authentication data from your HxGN SDx2 administrator before registering the model with HxGN SDx2.

    • HxGN SDx2 supports only Okta authentication (without IWA).

    • The HxGN SDx2 login you intend to use during registration must have an HxGN SDx2 System Administration, Business Administrator, or Design Lead role on the plant to which you are registering.

  1. Open Project Management using the Run as Administrator option.

  2. Select the model to register in the Project Management tree, and then select Integration > Register with SDx Command.

The software does not currently support registering a Change Management model with HxGN SDx2.

  3. Select Yes in the message box to continue and to display the Authentication Dialog.

  4. Define the settings as needed. All fields are mandatory with a possible exception for the Identity Provider Details. The Identity Provider Key Name and Identity Provider ID fields might be optional depending on the Okta configuration set up by your administrator.

  5. Select OK to open the Intergraph Authorization Server Login page.

  6. Enter your user name and password, and then select Login. A two-factor authentication is required for successful authentication.

After verifying your credentials, the software connects to the HxGN SDx2 server, and opens the Register Dialog. The system automatically populates the Tool ID box to display the tool that you are registering, in this case Smart 3D. The system also populates the SDx Server URL box with the URL you entered on the Authentication dialog.

  7. Provide information in the Tool Instance Description box. A new registration relationship and unique tool signature is created for each unique tool description provided, allowing you to register the same authoring tool to one plant multiple times for different organizations or disciplines.

  8. Select a work area in which to work as needed.

  9. To view the parameters to be stored in HxGN SDx2, select Tool Parameters in the Register Dialog.

  10. Select OK to register the model with the HxGN SDx2 server. During registration, a new work package is created as the root node of the existing WBS hierarchy. The software also synchronizes the 3D styles to HxGN SDx2.

The software creates the work package in one of the Model permission groups for which you have Full Control permission.

After the model is registered with HxGN SDx2, the software begins transferring the existing WBS hierarchy and design data to the newly created work package.

  11. Periodically review the %Temp%/TransferWBSHierarchy.log file to monitor the status of the transfer process through to completion.

After the transfer process completes successfully, the software displays a message.

  12. Select OK to close the message box.

  • The two graphics below show the WBS hierarchy as it exists before registration with HxGN SDx2 (1), and then post-registration with the newly created work package (CA_Plant1_CA0001). The successfully transferred WBS hierarchy displays underneath the work package root. (2).

  • If the transfer of the existing WBS hierarchy and design data to the new work package fails, the software displays a message. You can use the Retry Transfer WBS Hierarchy command to re-run the WBS hierarchy transfer process.

  • It is recommended that you review the %Temp%/TransferWBSHierarchy.log file before doing any modeling in the integrated model.

  • If needed, you can Modify details of the HxGN SDx2 registration.
